Bath Clean Air Zone

As the nation tries to improve the quality of its air, new initiatives are being rolled out with Bath pathing the way for cleaner air in its town, however will this have a diverse effect on businesses within the Bath area and those that need to travel through the historical town.

Proposing that a charge of £100 per day to go through Bath seems quite a lot for small businesses and with any other businesses working in Bath for a prolonged period of time will also pay the price.

The FTA have highlighted that the proposed move (coming in 2020) would have a detrimental effect to small businesses who rely on second hand vehicles as the cost for the charge is excessive and they could be priced out of business.

FTA welcomes relaxation of driver licensing for alternatively-fuelled vans

The law currently states that vans that are below the 3.5t weight limit can be driven on a category B, car licence, however the changes that were announced last week by the government are increasing that weight limit due to the hybrid electrical vehicles that carry a larger battery pack, increasing the weight of the vehicle overall and now limiting it at 4.25 tonnes.

The FTA’s Enviroment Policy Manager believes the licensing change will encourage more firms to consider a move to alternatively fuelled vehicles.

This positive change, mitigates the use of alternatively licensed drivers to transport their goods in hybrid alternatives. A great move, a common sense move by the government.
